About PermitRadar
What is PermitRadar?
PermitRadar is a free civic transparency tool that makes construction permit data accessible for all 37 municipalities in Camden County, New Jersey. Search any address, explore trends, and understand building activity in your community.
Data Sources
- Permit Data: New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (NJ DCA), sourced from data.nj.gov. This dataset contains construction permit records submitted by municipal construction officials through the state's SDL (Statewide Data Linkage) system.
- Parcel Data: Camden County GIS, providing property boundaries, addresses, zoning, and assessed values for over 200,000 parcels.
Important Caveats
- Not real-time: DCA data is batch-synced from municipal SDL systems. There can be delays between when a permit is issued or a certificate is granted locally and when it appears in the state dataset.
- Certificate dates: Certificate dates may reflect when the record was entered into the state system, not the actual inspection date.
- Process Date: This is the batch upload date when the state system processed the record, not the date of any construction activity.
- "Open" permits: Permits showing as "open" (status P) in the DCA data may already be closed at the municipal level but not yet synced to the state system. Always verify with your local construction office for the most current status.
- Completion time calculations: Based on the difference between permit date and certificate date in the DCA system. Actual project timelines may differ.
Data Refresh
- Permit data: Fetched weekly from the NJ SODA API
- Parcel/GIS data: Refreshed quarterly from Camden County GIS
